YOO, JU HEE

Biography

Born in 1958 in Hadong (South Korea) Yoo, Ju Hee lives and works in South Korea. Educated at Yeungnam University (BFA, MFA), her early practice was rooted in a form of Abstract Expressionism. She gradually shifted her attention toward color. During this period, she focused on exploring the contrast between black and white — a chromatic duo that allowed her to progressively approach this new dimension.

Her desire to connect with a wider audience led her to broaden and enrich her chromatic palette. In this exploration, her encounter with blue marked a true turning point, particularly anthraquinone blue, which has become the distinctive signature of her creations: « I found this anthraquinone blue, which somehow became my identity » . Her pictorial research is centered on repetition, seriality and gesture as a form of embodied thought.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous institutions and galleries in South Korea (Seoul Arts Center; CIAN Museum-Yeongcheon; Dalseo Arts Center-Daegu; Raiz Art Gallery-Seoul).
