Presentation

On the occasion of the celebrations of Franco-Korean friendship, Dutko Gallery is delighted to present from June 18th to July 18th 2026 “YOO, JU HEE Traces de méditation” - a solo exhibition by Korean artist Yoo, Ju Hee. Through a selection of acrylic and mixed-media works on canvas created over the past decade, the exhibition aims to explore an abstract artistic practice deeply rooted in gesture, rhythm, and color. Painting thus becomes a space for meditation. The exhibition marks the beginning of the collaboration between the artist and the gallery.

Bringing together a collection of works created over the past decade, the exhibition highlights the Korean artist’s practice based on repetition,  rhythm of execution and focus on gesture. The image is constructed gradually, through overlapping layers, revisions and erasures. Each canvas is based on a system of variations where the repeated gesture becomes both the structure of the composition and a measure of time.

Drawing inspiration from the concept of “the other side of existence” or “landscape beyond existence”, the series "Landscape over being" explores the relationship between being and landscape. The series “Repetition - Trace of Meditation” trascends the limits of the form and reveals the internal tension between the space of the canvas and the formal theory of painting. Rhythm and repetition, chaos and organized structure: there is no figurative intention in the “Blue” series, but rather a pictorial act that unites rhythm, gesture and space.

Born in 1958 in Daegu (South Korea) Yoo, Ju Hee lives and works between Korea and overseas. Her work has been exhibited in numerous institutions and galleries in South Korea and internationally, notably in Paris, New York and Tokyo, as well as in various contemporary art spaces across Europe and Asia.
